It was the Sorensen's night to rule after the print competition in Architecture was concluded last Thursday, March 11, at the Art Center. Bill won 1st place outright, with a great shot of the St. Nicholas Greek church in Tarpon Springs, Fla. Jan emerged the winner of a 3 way tie for second with an interesting window detail on the Kingwood Hall in Mansfield, Ohio.

First place honors in the slide division went to Rex Dolby, with picture of the amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery. After another 3 way tie for 2nd, Jodi Hattery's photo of the ceiling details in the St. John's Catholic Church in Delphos was declared the winner.

Doug Heckler brought sample shirts, so that we could determine the size we needed to order for a shirt with the club's logo. Doug also recommended that we purchase Office Publisher for the club's computer. This would enable us to do our own graphic projects on a more professional level. Bill Gallaway suggested we investigate Open Office, which is a free download before making a final decision. Another suggestion that was voiced was to contact the graphic arts department in one of the local high schools, or Vantage, to see if they offer such services. The decision was tabled till the next meeting.

Eagle sightings were reported at 3 different locations, but none could be specifically described. One was given as 2 or 3 miles south of Defiance on Route 111. Another was to take 127 S. to Fife Rd., east on Fife Rd. to Rumble Rd., then turn north. The third is located south of Celina. Take 127 south and turn east on 703. Climb the observation tower at the wildlife refuge to try to spot the nest.

If anyone has, or obtains. more specific directions, let the club know and we will pass it along.

The Camera Club's next meeting will be at 7 pm March 25, in the Wassenberg Art Center on S. Washington St. in Van Wert.

For adults age 18 and over, an interest in photography and a membership in the Wassenberg Art Center are all that’s needed to become a member of the Wassenberg Camera Club. Although the club is formally organized, its meetings are usually conducted quite informally the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7 p.m. in the Art Center.

Children under age 18 may attend Camera Club meetings if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian who has a Family Membership with the Wassenberg Art Center .

The second Thursday of each month is designated competition night. Members submit prints and slides on a predetermined theme for the club to judge. There is also an informative program as well as snacks that evening.

On other evenings, members may share pictures of their travels or vacations, discuss plans for upcoming events, or tell what they’ve learned at a conference or seminar they’ve attended.

Annually, the club is involved in the following events:

Sets up and supervises the photo exhibit at the Van Wert County Fair.

Assists the art center with all phases of a juried photo competition with cash prizes in October.

Assists the art center with staging of a noncompetitive photo exhibit, often with another photo club, in the spring.

Holds a special carry-in dinner and program at Christmas.

Participates in other camera clubs’ photocompetitions.
