Van Wert Clothing Exchange Seeks Clothing
“As one of our agencies, I see how the people of Van Wert County utilize the Clothing Exchange”, states Deb Russell,
Executive Director of the United Way of Van Wert County. “I was at the Clothing Exchange a few weeks ago and Helen Kiehl, who oversees the running
of the Clothing Exchange, pointed out the empty shelves in the infant and children’s area. After Christmas Caring and Sharing distribution day the shelves
are bare”.
Clients have access to the Clothing Exchange after they go through a screening process at the Community Action Commission. There the staff makes sure
the individual or family is income eligible and they receive a pink slip. This entitles them to go to the clothing exchange to pick up needed items. United Way
funds the Clothing Exchange and they use the funds to purchase socks, underwear, sheets, towels, washcloths, and special items so a person can be
employable. There is no cost to the client.
At this time the needs are “gently used” clothing for infants and children for both boys and girls. Winter coats are always welcome this time of year as long
as they are in good condition. “I can’t stress this enough, that the clothes need to be in good condition.
The Clothing Exchange is operated by volunteers and they do not have the room or the resources to take anything but “gently used” clothing”, states Russell.
“If you have some good clothing that your children can no longer wear or that they don’t want anymore please consider donating them to the Clothing Exchange.
They are open on Tuesdays from 9:00am – Noon at 719 E Crawford St, Van Wert, OH or call the Community Action Commission at 419.238.4544 to make arrangements.
Thank you for your assistance”.
